Job Title: Van Driver

Department: Environmental Services

Reports To: Environmental Services Director

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Analysis

Drives minibus, van, or lightweight truck to transport residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties are determined by the facility and may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Transport residents by van to medical, dental, vision, and hearing appointments, diagnostic procedures, and to and from the hospital within a 50 mile radius of the facility.
  2. Assists disabled passengers into and out of vehicle.
  3. Secures passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  4. Operates cellular phone to communicate with facilities or other providers to report disruption of service.
  5. Cleans and services vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
  6. Keeps records of trips and behavior of passengers.
  7. Must be able to assist in evacuation of residents in case of emergency.

Education and /or Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Drivers License, Evidence of Insurability – provided through Facilities insurance carrier.

Language Skills

Ability to read, and interpret procedures manuals. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and respond to questions from supervisors and regulatory agencies.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in using whole numbers.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications

Must have the desire to work with convalescent, geriatric or light psychiatric residents. Will assure that the resident's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established and maintained at all times. Must maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information. The employee shall use only the minimum necessary information to perform his or her responsibilities. Trust worthiness, loyalty, fairness, honesty and reliability must be one of his/her best assets.

Exposure Risk

This position carries a risk for blood borne pathogen (BBP) exposure. Must practice appropriate engineering and work practice controls, including standard precautions and hand hygiene. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended.
